Top order batsman Nick Carruthers is a late bloomer who firmly believes he is playing the best cricket of his career at 31.
And the Elderslie local proved his point with a stirring 112 for Bankstown - which included 13 fours and three sixes - in their win against Sutherland on the weekend in NSW Premier Cricket.
It was Carruthers’ fourth century and came on the same day as younger brother Mitchell scored 127 not out in second grade for Campbelltown-Camden against Fairfield.

“I found that out when I got home,” said Carruthers of his brother’s century.
Carruthers, who is investigating whether he and his brother are the great, great nephews of boxing great and world champion Jimmy Carruthers, said he is playing proof that some cricketers take time to mature.

“I was always the one that made the squad and couldn’t get in,” he said.
“I've just worked on it. I’m maturing with age. I’m like a fine wine.
“I’m better now than I was as a kid. I just developed a lot later than others.
“I will just keep working on my game.
“I’m still playing first grade and I’m a level two coach.
“Age is irrespective for me. If I am good enough to play I will for as long as I can.”
Carruthers last season became the first man to win the Player’s Player award (clubman of the year) and the Player of the Year award in the same season.
Working as a territory manager for Dunlop Flooring, Carruthers has been playing first grade since he was 18.
