She might be young, but Angelina Genford knows she wants to play cricket for Australia, and she’s doing everything she can to get there.

The fast bowler from Picnic Point competed at the Australian Indoor Cricket Championships in Dubbo on July 1.

Her prowess on the pitch helped secure a third-place result for the NSW under 17s — not bad for a girl of 13.

But this is not the only notch in Angelina’s belt.

The young cricketer was also selected in the NSW Cricket Academy and this year won the Sydney District Cricket’s Molly Dive Player of the Year award.

Yet there are bigger goals in Angelina’s sights.

Like her idols Ashleigh Gardner and Ellyse Perry, she hopes to one day join the elite ranks of the Women’s Big Bash League.

“I live and breathe cricket,” Angelina said. “I train four nights a week for cricket and play all weekend in the cricket season. “I am achieving all of my goals in cricket and am determined to play for Australia.”

Angelina is The Express’ latest nominee for the Junior Sports Star award, sponsored by Rebel.
