A woman was left bruised, scratched and drenched in Fanta following an allegedly violent road rage incident in Sydney’s west, court documents have revealed.
Seneuefa Sufia, 47, and Mose Sufia, 52, faced Bankstown Local Court on Thursday, accused of assaulting a woman and breaking the side mirror of her car during a road rage incident in Greenacre.
Mr Sufia pleaded guilty to intentionally damaging property and not guilty to assault occasioning bodily harm.
Ms Sufia denied charges of common assault, assault occasioning bodily harm and intentionally choking a person without consent.
The incident in question occurred on Roberts Rd just before 6pm on July 5 after a woman, driving a Ford Mondeo, merged ahead of Mr Sufia, driving a Toyota Kluger, with Ms Sufia in the front passenger seat.
Mr Sufia flashed his high beam lights, prompting the woman to stick her hand out the window and flip him the bird.
The two cars came to a stop at a red light, and Ms Sufia and the woman began arguing.
Police will allege that during the argument, Ms Sufia launched a Hungry Jack’s takeaway cup full of Fanta through the woman’s open window, drenching her and her interior, before Mr Sufia sped away.
Police documents state the woman, determined to get Mr Sufia’s registration details, followed him down Roberts Rd, eventually catching up with him and throwing her bottle at his car.
Mr Sufia, driving erratically, slowed down and merged behind the woman and began aggressively tailgating her.
The documents state the woman, now fearing for her safety, was unable to shake him off and the pair came to stop at another red light.
Mr Sufia exited his car and repeatedly punched the driver’s side window in an effort to break it.
When unsuccessful, he punched the side mirror until it broke before returning to his car.
The woman then got out of her car, saying “what the f--k?”
Mr Sufia asked: “Why did you throw your bottle at my car?”
“Your wife threw her cup at my car first,” the woman replied.
Police allege at this point, Ms Sufia also got out and grabbed the woman by her throat with both hands, squeezing “with a large amount of force” for about five seconds.
“What’s your problem?” Ms Sufia allegedly asked the woman while Mr Sufia closed in from behind.
Police claim a scuffle ensued, during which Ms Sufia allegedly choked the woman again.
Mr Sufia is accused of holding the woman by her arms with enough force to bruise her, before allegedly punching her once to the nose and lips.
Police documents state the woman also attempted to throw punches, believing she was “outnumbered” and “had no other option but to fight back”.
According to police, Mr Sufia eventually pushed the woman to the ground and the couple drove off.
The woman reported the incident at Bankstown Police Station that evening, when officers took photos of her injuries, which are said to have included multiple scratches to her neck, palms and arm.
The Sufias were charged on July 27.
Their matters are expected to return to court on January 9 next year.
Both are in the community and neither are subject to bail conditions.
