A woman accused of stabbing her ex-partner has admitted attacking the same man with a baseball bat five months earlier.
Lisa Michelle Brien, 44, was arrested at a Bass Hill unit late last Tuesday after allegedly stabbing her former partner of 20 years in the back.
She was subsequently remanded in custody on charges of reckless wounding and breaching an apprehended violence order, to which she is yet to enter pleas.
The fresh charges were raised on Wednesday in Bankstown Local Court, which heard they were the reason Brien could not be sentenced as planned for other domestic violence offences committed against the same man five months earlier.
Brien has pleaded guilty to the earlier charges, which include intimidation and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
Court documents state that on May 12, Brien arrived at the man’s unit and an argument broke out after he accused her of taking $25 out of his wallet.
He allegedly called Brien, an Indigenous woman, a “black c--t”, among other derogatory phrases, before grabbing her by the hair and hitting her multiple times.
Enraged, Brien struck back and began throwing bottles of beer at him, the documents state.
During the confrontation, she picked up a blue baseball bat and slammed it against the man’s thigh, leaving a livid welt.
Neighbours who witnessed the fight made multiple triple-0 calls, prompting police to arrive a short time later.
Police documents state it was clear to officers that Brien and the man were both affected by drugs and/or alcohol.
Officers seized the baseball bat, which had snapped in half, and questioned the man, who “reluctantly” disclosed that Brien had hit him.
Paramedics treated the pair at the scene before taking the man to Bankstown Hospital.
Meanwhile, police arrested Brien and took her to Bankstown Police Station, where she declined to be interviewed.
Court documents also revealed this was not the first time Brien had been accused of violent crimes, with more than 500 police incidents recorded and more than 40 occasions on which she had been arrested and charged.
Brien is now due to be sentenced for the May offences on November 6 in Bankstown Local Court, with the more recent charges set to be mentioned on the same day.
