Search for armed trio who robbed elderly couple in Condell Park

Police are seeking help to track down three men who robbed an elderly couple of their jewellery at knifepoint at their Condell Park home.

Bankstown police are appealing for community help to apprehend three armed men who used a knife to steal jewellery from the safe of an elderly couple in Condell Park.

Police said about 2.10pm on Monday, a 77-year-old man was sitting on the front veranda of his Simmat Ave home when he was approached by three men.

“Two of the men entered the property and approached the resident on his veranda, one of them produced a knife,” a police spokesman said.

“They threatened the resident and took him inside where they gained access to his safe.

“They stole an amount of jewellery before running from the home with the third man who was waiting outside.

“The trio was last seen heading south towards Townsend Street before turning left in the direction of Edgar Street, Condell Park.

Police said the man and his 77-year-old wife, who was also home at the time of the robbery, were fortunately not hurt.

Police describe the three men as Pacific Islander/Maori in appearance.

Police said the first man, who was armed with a knife, wore a white hooded jumper covering his head, grey track pants with white runners and a black satchel bag.

The second man had a black hooded jumper and black track pants and white runners while other male is reported to be slim and wore a white jumper with black or blue sleeves, black track pants and white runners.

Police are calling for anyone who may have been in the area of Simmat Ave or Townsend Ave in Condell Park around that time, or who may have CCTV/dashcam vision, to contact Bankstown police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

This is the second incident in Canterbury Bankstown involving elderly residents being robbed. On July 12, an elderly woman was assaulted and her gold chain and crucifix stolen while she was walking along Leyland Parade, Belmore. Campsie Police are investigating the incident.
