An adventure park featuring watersports, bike and walking tracks will transform the neglected man-made lakes at Deepwater Park, Milperra.
It will complement $20 million convention centre planned by Doltone House group which won approval for its massive project in 2015.
Plans for adventure park include canoeing, kayaking and a boat house will add to the attractions in one of the largest parks in Canterbury Bankstown, said councillor Steve Tuntevski, whose motion to set up the facility has been approved by the council.
“I believe that this site has enormous potential to be Canterbury-Bankstown’s adventure/ recreational park precinct,” Cr Tuntevski told The Express.
In 2016, Doltone House announced it would build a multi-function convention centre, restaurant and extensive gardens at the sprawling site of the Deepwater Motor Boat Club, although no date has been given for its opening.
The Express contacted Doltone House Group for comment.
“The application was determined on November 21, 2014,” a Centerbury Bankstown Council spokeswoman said.
“The Joint regional Planning Panel then approved a deferred commencement on May 8, 2015, giving the applicant five years from the deferred commencement date to start construction.”
The development area is 4.08 ha.
Cr Tuntevski said plans for the new park would reinvigorate the area, pointing out that Aussie Paintball on Maxwell Ave already attracted adventure seekers.
“It’s going to be absolutely fantastic for our area because the lakes are hidden gems and unless you’re a local you wouldn’t even know it was there,” Cr Tuntevski said.
drinks while families can enjoy water-based activities.
“The support that I have received is enormous and it is very exciting.”
It is hoped the new facilities will help deter those who engage in illicit sexual activities in a notorious section of Deepwater Park.
In 2016, Doltone House executive chairman Paul Signorelli told The Express: “Once we open here then I can see more and more activities in the park itself, where it has just been forgotten.
“Since the last 10 years I think this whole place has been forgotten — it’s a beautiful spot.”
The plans for that time included a multi-function convention centre, 250-seater indoor-outdoor restaurant and open kitchen, wood-fired pizza oven and grand cellar and cheese room.
Mr Signorelli said a herb and citrus garden, purpose-built chicken coop and pens for livestock will create a “100 metre menu”.
