Revesby teacher Matt Farrelly confident his wrestling skills will be his ace in Australian Survivor

For someone who dabbles as pro wrestler in his dream job and a teacher by day, Revesby’s Matt Farrelly could be the man to take out the 2019 Survivor title.

Australian Survivor: Champions vs Contenders II

Revesby teacher Matty Farrelly, who doubles up as pro wrestler by night, is up for his biggest challenge in Channel 10’s hit reality series, Survivor.

The 28-year-old has two vastly differing personalities for his two professions and wants to take out the Survivor crown.

The confident teacher will be in the Contenders team as they take on the Champions from Wednesday, July 24, at 7.30pm on Channel 10. He wants to play the Survivor game with integrity.

“People respond to someone who played the game well and made moves, even if they were voted off,” he said.

“It is how to ensure you play with a good strategy to get votes at the end.

“I know I can win this.”

Survivor contestants include Olympic champions Nova Peris and Stephen Bradbury, Andrew Ettingshausen (ex-NRL), Simon Black (ex-AFL), Luke Toki (former Survivor competitor), Janine Allis (Boost Juice founder), Ross Clare-Jones (surfer), Susie Maroney (long distance swimmer), John Eastoe (gold miner), Sarah Ayles (survived the 2004 tsunami in Sri Lanka),

A former lifeguard at Disney World, Florida, Mr Farrelly said he is keen to do something he has never tried, this being his second attempt at joining the series.

“I have done mixed martial arts when I was studying at Western Sydney University and just because you are a teacher, does not mean you don’t have a life outside school,” Mr Farrelly said.

“I have been working on and off as a geography and history teacher for seven years and usually have wrestling shows on the weekend.

“I have always been a massive fan of Survivor and while sitting on the coach, used to think, yes, I can totally do those things.

“But now that I am on the set, it’s surreal and very strange though it is exactly what you see on TV but on a much larger scale.

“I like the challenge and I don’t think the Survivor has seen an athlete like me before.

“And I want to be at that final tribal council with someone who I can beat easily, which I’ll have already done by beating all worthy competitors.

“I recommend this 100 per cent to others because Survivor takes you out of the comfort zone and off the coach.

“You think of doing crazy things and now you have the chance to do it.”
