What happens after a sexual assault?

Three men accused of a gang rape of a woman one had met on Tinder have had their charges mentioned in Bankstown Local Court.

Rami Katlan, 24, of Busby, charged with aggravated sexual assault appeared in person at the court complex but did not enter the courtroom for his case.

His co-accused, Adam Kabbout, 24, allegedly met the woman on Tinder, and spoke to her for several months before police allege she invited him over to a Belmore home on April 16.

Police say the woman went to her bathroom and returned to find four men she didn’t know in her living room.

Kabbout did not appear in person at court and is currently remanded in custody after a bail request in the Supreme Court was denied.

Omar El-Sayed was excused from attending court, and was instead represented by his lawyer.

Katlan, Kabbout, and El-Sayed had their charges mentioned in court with the prosecution requesting an adjournment of six to eight weeks to continue to build its brief of evidence, which was granted.

The prosecution is now expected to finalise its brief of evidence by November 8, with the cases returning to court on November 22.

The fourth co-accused, 19-year old Mohammed Ali, remains before the courts, charged with aggravated sexual assault.

Yazan Katlan, who is mentioned in the charge sheets filed to court as allegedly being present on the night of the alleged gang rape, was facing a forensic procedure request by police, which was withdrawn in court today.

He has not been charged with any crime.
