Since it opened its doors in February, hundreds of disadvantaged people in Canterbury Bankstown have been able to feed themselves through the Prosper Community Kitchen at Campsie.

From providing all the ingredients to make wholesome meals in the kitchens to providing examples of healthy food, the Prosper Community Kitchen extends a welcome helping hand to those less fortunate.

The kitchen, which is open every Thursday, is supported by the Sisters of Charity Foundation, which is inviting donors and residents to have a first-hand chance to see how their donation

dollars are being spent on Thursday, May 30.

“We’ve seen 97 community members coming along to at least one kitchen day,” Prosper’s Karen Craigie said.

“When you take into account other members of their household the program has already benefited 720 people since its opening in February.”

“We’re looking forward to hosting the Sisters of Charity Foundation and showcasing the value of the community kitchen.

“It has been a marvellous platform for community-building and increasing the dignity of those who are isolated or disadvantaged.”

Visitors at the open day can also chat to the community kitchen participants and also sample some of their favourite recipes.

“Prosper is a fantastic organisation doing vital work within the community and we’re proud to be a supporter.”

Prosper (Project Australia) is an award-winning small community organisation that aims to support disadvantaged children and their families.

Its community kitchen program gives those experiencing poverty and homelessness access to a free kitchen facility, cooking equipment, storage containers and fresh ingredients to prepare healthy meals for their families.

The Sisters of Charity Foundation support initiatives that receive little or no funding from other sources, that benefit the disadvantaged, marginalised and socially isolated people in the community.
