Campsie Police acting commander Paul Albury is confident that the Belmore stalker will be identified because of the clarity of the CCTV images released today.

About 11pm on Saturday, December 8, a 31-year-old woman left Belmore railway station and was walking on Leylands Pde, Belmore, when she noticed a man walking closely behind her. Fearing for her safety, the woman ran away to safety.

Early on Monday, December 10, police said the same woman was grabbed from behind as she walked along Leylands Pde.

The attacker – believed to be the same man – covered the woman’s mouth and attempted to drag her towards a unit complex, before she was able to escape and call for help.

The man ran from the scene.

Police said CCTV cameras show that a second woman was also followed along Leylands Parade just before the attack.

Speaking to the media at Campsie station this morning, Detective Chief Inspector Albury said someone should know who this person is from the images and appealed to them to come forward.

“We are very confident in solving this matter and very confident someone will know him,” Det Chief Insp Albury said.

“We think this is more random which is concerning.

“This is safe area and these are unusual incidents in this area.

“We are also appealing to another woman who was followed and sought help in a front yard of a house on the same day, to come forward and speak to us.

“Further inquiries show the same man was also seen on Saturday, December 22, at Belmore railway station following a number of women over a two-hour period.

“He gave wrong details to the detectives who spoke to him, saying he is new to the area and not familiar with the local roads.”
