He said the man approached her at Belmore train station about noon that day.

“They left the platform and walked to a park before walking to Beamish St, Campsie.

“The assaults allegedly occurred at the station and at a nearby park.

“The man left the girl in Beamish St and she reported to a family friend who contacted police immediately.

“Despite extensive inquiries, we are today releasing some CCTV vision of the man and we hope that someone may recognise this man and, if they do, to please contact police on 1800 333 000.”

He added it was a brazen assault on a vulnerable victim.

“I don’t believe he has followed her (to the station). He has potentially seen her at the station and approached her,” he said.

The man has been described as being of Mediterranean/Middle Eastern appearance, aged about 20, with dark hair and a dark beard.

“I urge members of the community to look closely at the image and if you recognise the man, please contact police.”

Det Supt Kerlatec said while they had met once before it was believed the first meeting was nothing more than a chance meeting.

“Everyone deserves the right to know they can walk the street safely.

“Equally so, I think, there is an expectation that if you see something or know of something that you either intervene and do something and assist or you contact police immediately.”
