It has its roots in Spain, but flamenco has fired up in Bankstown.
The first class, run by international flamenco star Pepa Molina, was held at the Bankstown Arts Centre last Wednesday.
Ms Molina first danced flamenco when she was nine and later in the 1990s worked with such luminaries as Antonio Vargas, who starred in Strictly Ballroom.
She has forged a solid career teaching flamenco, which she has done for over 25 years, across two continents.
Ms Molina goes back to Spain every year to tour and run summer workshops and she hopes residents will fall in love with the dance, as she has.
“If you’re not prepared for a flamenco show or know little about it, the usual reaction when seeing a good flamenco performance is mind blowing,” she said.
Classes will be held each Wednesday at Bankstown Arts Centre from 6pm-7.30pm for intermediate dancers and 7.30pm-8.30pm for beginners.
