More than $15,000 has been raised to support the family of a young father tragically killed in a crash in Sydney’s southwest.
Jordan Afa Ainiu was travelling in a Volkswagen Golf on Sunday night when the car smashed into a tree along Henry Lawson Dr, near the Hume Hwy in Lansdowne, killing him and the male driver.
Mr Ainiu, 22, had recently become a father to a son, now aged three months.
A GoFundMe campaign has since been launched to help support his partner and baby boy, with thousands raised within hours of the fundraiser — now at $17,365 — going live.
Organiser Anthony Batti said family “meant everything” to Mr Ainiu, whose death had “left an enormous hole in all of our hearts”.
“Jordan was not only a dear friend but was also a significant other, a son, a brother and also a loving father,” he wrote on GoFundMe.
“Raising these funds will ensure that his wishes to provide for his family will be taken care of and that they will not experience financial burden.”
Family and friends have shared memories on social media of Mr Ainiu, who was originally from Melbourne and had moved to Sydney to be with his partner.
His Facebook page has been flooded with tributes, with many expressing shock over his death.
His uncle, Jeph Filipaina, said he will “always be engraved in each and everyone’s hearts” while others remembered him for his optimism and infectious laugh.
Investigations are continuing into the circumstances surrounding the crash and police are urging anyone with dashcam footage or information to contact them.
