John Waters, 70, is famous for shows Through The Glass Onion featuring John Lennon but does not want his fans to expect something similar with his latest event Dylan Revisited.

The widely travelled entertainer and actor brings his Bob Dylan show to Canterbury Hurlstone Park RSL on Saturday, August 24, as part of his big Australian tour which kicked off this week.

“People know me from the Through The Glass Onion but I have to pre-warn them because the Dylan show is not like those ones,” Waters told The Express.

“This is a different kettle of fish and this will be me being relaxed and chatting to the audience.

“I won’t be impersonating Dylan, I don’t want to do that, but my great band and I will perform his songs with my own personality on them.

“I have no favourite Dylan songs but do like Hurricane which is about a boxer who was wrongly convicted, it is a very powerful song.”

The English-born artist has been performing in Australia for decades, making movies and TV shows alongside his music.

Waters is now filming for different roles in between his tour, which will take him through NSW, Queensland, Western Australia and Tasmania until December.

The grandfather of two is loving the thrill of performances and handling the acting roles, saying he is grateful to be doing what he loves.

“I am still motivated and I am lucky I am still playing a lot of regional theatres too,” Waters said.

“Another side of my life is my acting and I am shooting a series, called The End plus other cameo roles.

“Funnily I still have more time for my three teenage children than most average dads.

“I have been relatively lucky with general health and don’t feel the age because I think of it only as a number.”

Waters, who also has two older children from his first marriage, said he is yet to meet Dylan whom he has described as the guy “who picks an acoustic guitar and sings through his nose”.

Waters moved to Australia in the late 1960s, quickly making his mark in films and theatre productions.
