Canterbury Bankstown Council has fined the owners of 40 trucks who were found illegally parked on footpaths and nature strips during a 48-hour blitz.
The owners were fined in the first blitz on the weekend of September 21-22, with the most incidents in Punchbowl and Campsie.
The fine for illegally parking a heavy vehicle for more than one hour is $114, while it is $268 for parking on a path or nature strip in a built up area.
The council said they were responding to complaints from residents, with fines also issued to the owners of 10 cars found parked illegally on the footpath.
Council officers targeted suburbs identified by residents as being the worst: Earlwood, Campsie, Croydon Park, Lakemba, Punchbowl and Roselands.
The council has also been successful in reducing illegal dumping by a huge 40 per cent through its by EyesOnIt campaign, where community input is considered very valuable.
The council also has to deal with unregistered vehicles parked illegally on its property including streets.
Mayor Khal Asfour said trucks were illegally parked on nature strips and footpaths, and in no parking areas, causing safety issues for motorists and pedestrians.
“It’s disappointing to see so many infringement notices needed to be issued over just two days but, hopefully, as this operation continues, we will see an improvement,” Cr Asfour said.

“Our officers can’t be everywhere all the time, so it’s important residents tip us off when someone is doing the wrong thing, including trucks being parked illegally and causing safety issues,” Cr Asfour said.
