Enjoy some classic Australia Day entertainment at Canterbury Bankstown
The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs’ official cheer squad, The Sapphires, will provide the sparkle at the Australia Day celebrations at Belmore Sports Ground from 6pm.

Also The Voice semifinalist Spencer Jones will headline Canterbury-Bankstown’s first twilight Australia Day event.
Dream Street Dance Company director, Ashleigh Andrews, who trains The Sapphires, said they are looking forward to celebrating with the residents.
“The girls love getting involved with the community events in the area,” she said.
“So far we have had over 120 applications for our audition and this is the most applications we’ve ever had in the four years I have running the squad.
“It’s amazing that so many people want to be apart of the Sapphires and Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs brand.
“We will have three
clinics on the night and each have a different style....all clinics are for all levels and abilities providing a fun and engaging experience.
She said the clinics will give locals the chance to try something new or something they might have always wanted to try but have never had the opportunity to.
Lead Sapphire Tracy Reid said they will run three dance clinics and each one, running for 30
minutes, will have a different style.
“We’ll have one clinic to showcase traditional cheerleading style, another all about hip hop and the last will be funk,” Ms Reid said.
“It’s the perfect opportunity to try something new while having some fun and, who knows, you might surprise yourself.”
Residents will also be able to play rugby league with the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs at the event, with players there to kick goals, pass the ball and run you through some drills.
British-born Spencer Jones said he will performing some Aussie classics and also a few surprise songs.
“The overwhelming majority, 91 per cent, of residents who took part in a survey told us they
spend Australia Day at home with family, or at a friend’s barbecue, but would attend a local
night event if there was one,” Mayor Khal Asfour said.
There will be carnival rides, a wide variety of entertainment, topped off by a sizzling fireworks display.
“Two of my favourite things about Australia are its inclusiveness and multiculturalism – and
Canterbury-Bankstown is really big on both those things,’ Mr Jones said.
“My wife was born at Canterbury Hospital, we have a lot of friends in the area and we love
the food in the city, so Canterbury-Bankstown has a special place in my heart.
“I can’t wait to finally perform here and it will be a pleasure to look into the crowd and see such a diverse audience celebrating as one.”
TV personality Scott McRae will be MC at the twilight event which includes a performance and meet and greet with ABCKidsTV’s program, Splash Dance, The Australian Blues Brothers Show, fire performers, dancers and cheerleading and football activities run by the Bulldogs.
The Sydney Harbour Bridge fireworks display will be shown on the big screen at 9pm, followed by a live fireworks display at 9.20pm.
