Former NSW Premier and Australian Foreign Minister Bob Carr headlines an impressive list of speakers at the Western Sydney Leadership Dialogue’s Out There Summit at Bankstown’s Bryan Brown Theatre.
The event on Tuesday, July 2, features more than 30 speakers, including former Sydney Mayor Lucy Turnbull, Education Minister Sarah Mitchell and Catholic education’s top official Greg Whitby.
Famous Australian actor and Panania local Bryan Brown, 72, will be performing for the first time at the theatre named in his honour.
The Dialogue’s flagship policy and community event features a full day conference, including the annual Lachlan Macquarie Lecture and the awarding of the Pemulwuy Prize for commitment to the region.
This year the program will focus on education, jobs, major projects, sustainability and other aspects impacting the growth in the region.
Sara Mansour, the co-founder and director of the very popular Bankstown Poetry Slam and the award-winning Punchbowl Boys’ High School band, 320, fresh from their show at TEDx Sydney, will also perform on stage.
Adam Leto, the Executive director Western Sydney Leadership Dialogue, said this one of the reasons Bankstown is hosting the forum is because of its rising status in the state.
“This is the first time Bankstown is hosting the summit and it is an emerging centre with a strong growth curve,” Mr Leto said.
“Bankstown has a big role to play in western Sydney’s and NSW’s growth.
“We will use this platform to raise the profile of Bankstown and connect it to the rest of Sydney.
“It is a really exciting time for Bankstown and this could overcome the perceptions about Bankstown.
“In the past it has struggled with people’s perceptions of Bankstown, with many not knowing what it can offer.
“The forum has a range of speakers from government and small businesses who will speak on various topics.
“This will help shape the future of western Sydney because it will provide a cross section of views.”
Several individuals and organisations to be presented with leadership prizes recognising their contribution to the region, including Phil Gould, Sydney Water and West HQ.
