Tamworth: Teens charged over alleged Coles stabbing incident

Two teenage boys have been charged after allegedly bashing a man and stabbing him at a Tamworth supermarket.
On Tuesday night paramedics rushed to the a Coles store on Kathleen St, Tamworth after receiving reports a man had been stabbed.
Police stated a 51-year-old man confronted two teenagers for allegedly stealing from the store, which prompted them to leave.
However, they later returned with a group of people, police claim.
It is alleged that four youths approached the 51-year-old, assaulted and stabbed him.
It is not clear whether the alleged assault happened within the Coles franchise, or outside the premises.
The situation escalated further when the man’s 27-year-old son intervened, only to be allegedly assaulted as well.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the older man for a stab wound to his lower back, along with cuts and bruising at the scene, before transporting him to Tamworth Hospital for further treatment.
His son also sustained bruises and abrasions, but did not require hospital treatment.
Police officers apprehended two teenage boys - ages 14 and 15 - less than an hour after the alleged altercation.
The boys were taken to Tamworth Police Station and each charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company of others, and affray.
They were granted conditional bail to appear at a children’s court on July 8.
