THREE supermarkets in Sydney’s south will now have low-sensory shopping hours after widespread success across NSW.
Coles’ low-sensory Quiet Hour experience provides reduced noise, lighting and distraction in stores for customers who find it challenging to shop in heightened sensory environments.
Coles Miranda, Illawong and Helensburgh will experience reduced lighting, low-volume registers and scanners, no Coles Radio or PA announcements and no trolley collection between 10.30am and 11.30am every Tuesday.
The stores will also offer free fruit at customer service and additional team members to support customers during Quiet Hour.
Coles Caringbah and Brighton Le Sands were among the first stores to roll out Quiet Hour.
Coles state general manager Emma Bridges said the supermarket had worked hard to make stores more welcoming to local communities’ needs.
“We initially started with 18 Quiet Hour stores in NSW and we’re thrilled to be increasing this figure to almost fourfold to make Quiet Hour more accessible for our customers and help make a difference to their shopping experience at Coles,” Ms Bridges said.
The trial first rolled out at two Victorian Coles stores in August last year to support customers who are, or have family members, on the autism spectrum.
More than 170 stores across Australia now have Quiet Hour shopping experiences.
