Little Bonny’s, Menai
You don’t often hear regional French cuisine and Aussie burger culture in the same sentence – but at Menai’s Little Bonny’s, they’re in the same shop. The modern take on the local chicken shop created by the minds behind Cronulla’s Blackwood Pantry is serving up sophisticated riffs on classic burger staples with the Fancy Pants (panko schnitzel, camembert, red onion, lettuce, cranberry relish and truffle mayo), the Shroom (grilled mushroom, cheddar, red onion, lettuce, beetroot relish and truffled mayo) and the BB (angus beef, cheddar, bacon, pickled jalapeño, red onion, lettuce, chipotle mayo and smoky barbecue).
Huxley’s, Caringbah
Sneak behind the fridge door to find a basement bar all about burgers and ball games at Huxley’s in Caringbah. The American-style sports bar is dishing up a variety of flavourful options including the Shire fried chicken (fried chicken, cheddar, creamy slaw and mustard barbecue sauce), the Huxley burger (beef, cheddar, lettuce, tomato, pickles and Huxley’s burger sauce) and the vegetarian-friendly Dr Green Thumb (portobello mushroom, kale, smoked tomato, onion rings and aioli).
Dougie’s, Hurstville
Dougie’s is a southern Sydney icon, and so is their camel burger complete with a 100 per cent camel patty covered in Arabian spices, melted cheese, lettuce, tomato, dill pickles, caramelised onions, mayo mustard and Dougie’s special sauce. Traditionalists will enjoy the Dougie (grilled chicken breast, cheese, lettuce, onion, mayo and Dougie’s sauce) or the cheeseburger, Portuguese burger or Aussie burger.
Driftwood Cafe, Bundeena
Driftwood Cafe’s Thai chicken burger with marinated grilled chicken, spicy slaw, tomato, snow pea sprouts and sweet chilli mayo is worth the drive into the Royal National Park alone. Other deliciously unique options include the barramundi burger (barramundi, Swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato, caramelised onion and tartare sauce) and the veggie burger (housemade sweet potato and quinoa patty, haloumi, tomato, spinach and onion rings with aioli).

Eat Burger, Cronulla
You can watch Cronulla’s crashing waves while you chow down on Eat Burger’s diverse range of burgers, such as the Southern fried chicken with streaky maple bacon, slaw, chipotle and cheese. Great Southern Burger Co, Cronulla
Great Southern Burger Co takes a few twists on traditional burgers with the Surf’s Up (chicken, cheese, bacon, pineapple, lettuce and herbed mayo), the Aphrodite (chicken, avocado, bacon, crumbed mozzarella, lettuce and thousand island sauce) and the Hail Caesar (chicken, bacon, egg, parmesan, lettuce and caesar sauce).
Where’s Wolli, Wolli Creek
Wolli Creek gets its own signature burger at Where’s Wolli. The Wolli burger has a beef patty, lettuce, tomato, American cheese and truffle aioli on a milk bun with shoestring fries on the side. For an alternative, try the chicken burger with lettuce, tomato and sweet chilli aioli.
Sugar Rae’s, Sutherland
It’s all tried and true at Sugar Rae’s in Sutherland, where the menu is printed on an old-school chalkboard. Hurstville’s Burger Co occupies prime position on the rooftop at Westfield Hurstville and they are serving up American-inspired flavour combinations to suit every foodie. The vegetarian American hippie combines a corn and black bean fritter, spinach, tomato, mushroom, onion, American cheese and herb mayo, while the flyin’ Hawaiian mixes grilled tender chicken breast, Swiss cheese, tomato, lettuce, streaky bacon, avocado, grilled pineapple and special sauce.
Smoke and Soda, Heathcote
Fresh, sustainable produce is the name of the game at Smoke and Soda. The brisket burger packs house-smoked wagyu brisket with jalepeno tequila relish, caramelised onion, cheese, fried egg and hash brown on a milk bun. The veggie-friendly option includes a corn and haloumi fritter, tomato, portabello mushroom, cheese, baby spinach and guacamole aioli on a milk bun.
Milky Lane, Cronulla
Milky Lane headed south from Bondi and set up shop in the Shire. 500 Degrees, Kogarah
You can grab a burger at 500 Degrees for under $14 and every single one is bursting with fresh flavours and secret sauce. the pulled beef includes slow-cooked beef, crispy onion rings, pickles and mustard, while the hot chick is mixing panko chicken breast, American cheese, peri peri sauce, lettuce, tomato, onion, spiced pickle and spicy aioli.
Hot Chix, Kurnell
Kurnell gets a signature burger at Hot Chix, packed with chargrilled chicken, pineapple, lettuce, cheese, mayo and sweet chilli. The pesto burger takes a little twist on a chicken classic with bacon, tomato, lettuce, cheese and pesto mayo.
