Drowning man saved by dog walkers at Cronulla Beach
A DROWNING man pulled unconscious from the ocean in Sydney’s south was saved by local residents who were walking their dogs on the beach at the time.

DOG-WALKERS have saved a drowning man’s life after they pulled him unconscious from the water at a Cronulla beach this morning.
Anthony Gentile, who owns Cronulla burger restaurant Jake Chalmers, was walking his dog with his mother at Greenhills Beach when they noticed the man floating in the water around 10.20am.
“At first we thought it was a turtle but when we saw the waves come through we realised it was a person,” Mr Gentile said.
“I ran out and dragged him in, he wasn’t breathing, he wasn’t responding and we couldn’t find a pulse.”
Mr Gentile, his mother and other passers-by rolled the man on his side and started giving him chest compressions.
“After a while he spat out some water and we kept looking after him until the ambulance arrived.”
Sutherland Shire police have been told the elderly man, who was found fully clothed in the water, was reported missing early this morning.
A NSW Ambulance spokesman said six crews attended the scene before taking him to St George Hospital in a serious condition.
“He was in a pretty bad way when the ambulances arrived,” the spokesman said.
