Sydney food name and shame: restaurants fined

THREE southern Sydney eateries have been fined a combined $2400 and ordered to clean up their act in the past month. Restaurants across Sydney received an additional 44 penalty notices for pests, unclean facilities and selling unsuitable food. SEE THE FULL LIST OF FINED EATERIES.

THREE southern Sydney eateries have been fined a combined $2400 and ordered to clean up their act in the past month.

The NSW Food Authority penalised three restaurants in St George and the Sutherland Shire in the past month for cleanliness and contamination offences.

Miranda Chinese Restaurant was fined $880.

Miranda Chinese Restaurant at 555 Kingsway was fined $880 after they failed to store food in a way that would prevent it from contamination.

The Food Authority alleges Miranda Chinese Restaurant has received previous warnings for the same issue in the past.

The offence was detected on May 29 this year.

Abode Thai Cuisine was also fined $880.

Brighton Thai restaurant Abode Thai Cuisine at 323 Bay St was also fined $880 for failing to take all measures to prevent pests entering the food premises.

The offence occurred on July 7 this year.

Kingsgrove takeaway shop Hot Food Charcoal Chicken at 255 Kingsgrove Rd was fined $440 for a failure to maintain fixtures, fittings and equipment to the required standard of cleanliness.

The offence was detected on June 26 this year.

In the past week alone Food Authority inspectors issued Sydney eateries with 47 penalty notices and added them to the Name and Shame list.

NAMED AND SHAMED

BAYSIDE

Babushka’s Kefir, Botany: fined $2640 for failing to eradicate and prevent pests, failing to maintain cleanliness and failing to maintain fixtures and facilities despite previous warnings in July 2018.

BURWOOD

Michel’s Patisserie, Burwood: fined $1540 for failing to appoint a food safety supervisor and maintain food preparation facilities despite previous warnings in June 2018.

CANTERBURY-BANKSTOWN

Banoful Restaurant and Sweets, Lakemba: fined $1760 for failing to protect single-use items from contamination and have waste storage that is protected from pests despite previous warnings in May 2018.

Mo Burger 53, Campsie: fined $1760 for failing to maintain cleanliness and store food to protect it from contamination despite previous warnings in August 2018.

Tonkotsuya, Bankstown: fined $2640 for failing to have a temperature measuring device, display potentially hazardous food under temperature control and maintain handwashing facilities despite previous warnings in July and August 2018.

CANADA BAY

Bunme, Rhodes: fined $1760 for failing to maintain handwashing facilities and protect food from contamination despite previous warnings in May 2018.

Steve’s Select Meats, Drummoyne: fined $880 for selling pork sausages and beef sausages containing sulphur dioxide preservatives above the permitted level in June 2018.

CUMBERLAND

Excel Fresh, Guildford: fined $1540 for failing to comply with a prohibition order in June 2018.

Peshawar Restaurant, Auburn: fined $880 for failing to eradicate pests in June 2018.

INNER WEST

Fiji Markets, Newtown: fined $440 for failing to ensure live animals are not permitted in areas where food is prepared despite previous warnings in June 2018.

New India Times, Enmore: fined $880 for failing to maintain cleanliness in June 2018.

LIVERPOOL

Pizza Hut, Middleton Grange: fined $1760 for failing to maintain cleanliness and maintain premises in May 2018.

MOSMAN

Homestyle Bakery, Mosman: fined $2640 for failing to maintain cleanliness, maintain premises and eradicate pests in May 2018.

NORTH SYDNEY

Bistro Hulu, Crows Nest: fined $880 for failing to maintain handwashing facilities despite previous warnings in June 2018.

NORTHERN BEACHES

Elanora Chinese Restaurant, Elanora Heights: fined $1320 for failing to construct appropriate food premises, store food to prevent contamination and have appropriately clean surfaces despite previous warnings in April 2018.

Malibu Grill, Balgowlah: fined $1760 for failing to maintain cleanliness and handwashing facilities despite previous warnings in October 2018.

Manly Point Cafe, Manly: fined $880 for failing to display potentially hazardous food under temperature control despite previous warnings in April 2018.

Red Lea Chickens, Brookvale: fined $880 for failing to maintain the cleanliness of fixtures despite previous warnings in March 2018.

Sea Bar Fish Cafe, Dee Why: fined $440 for failing to maintain supply of paper towels at a handwashing station despite previous warnings in July 2018.

PARRAMATTA

Deepslice Pizza, Parramatta: fined $1320 for selling unsuitable food in July 2018.

THE HILLS

Northwest Growers, Castle Hill: fined $880 for failing to eradicate pests in April 2018.

WAVERLEY

Cousin Jack’s Pasty Co, Bondi Junction: fined $880 for failing to cool potentially hazardous food in June 2018.

La Galleria Cafe, Waverley: fined $880 for failing to take all steps to prevent contamination in May 2018.

WILLOUGHBY

Fortune Palace, Chatswood: fined $1760 for failing to display potentially hazardous food under temperature control and prevent contamination in June 2018.

Spices of India, Chatswood: fined $1320 for selling unsuitable food in June 2018.
