A SYDNEY council received three development applications for more than 100 new apartments worth more than a combined $41m on the same day last month.
Georges River Council received three applications, one in Hurstville and two side-by-side in Kogarah amounting to 102 apartments, on September 5.
The proposal for Regent St in Kogarah would see three single-storey homes transformed into an 11-storey high rise block with 61 apartments within walking distance of St George Hospital and Kogarah station.
The $17.8 million tower would be made up of nine one-bedroom apartments, 44 two-bedroom apartments and eight three-bedroom apartments, with 69 basement car spaces and a rooftop communal area.
A 12-storey tower proposed for Treacy St in Hurstville would become the last of three stages of a near-complete apartment development 400m from Hurstville station.
The $23.7 million development proposal includes 41 units, a roof terrace, a basement carpark and retail premises at the street level near the Hurstville town centre.
The proposal includes seven one-bedroom apartments, 19 two-bedroom apartments, 11 three-bedroom apartments and four four-bedroom apartments.
If approved, the developments could amount to hundreds of new additional residents making use of the nearby Hurstville and Kogarah railway stations.
A Transport for NSW spokesman told the St George Shire Standard earlier this year it was aware of surging demand at stations such as Hurstville.
“This is why we are prioritising capacity improvements for the train lines that serve these busy stations,” he said.
“(Plans) include an increase of up to five more trains per hour during the morning peak hour services on the T4 Eastern Suburbs and Illawarra Line as well as additional services for South Coast customers.”
