A WOMAN is lucky to be alive after she was apparently bitten by a brown snake in Sydney’s south last weekend.
The Sutherland Shire resident who asked not to be named was in a small carpark in Woronora in the Sutherland Shire when she was bitten by the extremely deadly reptile.
Her partner Graham Huckel told the St George Shire Standard she was looking up for birds to take photos of when she was bitten on the foot and saw the snake disappearing under a nearby trailer.
“She thought she had kicked a sharp stick and tried to kick it away,” Mr Huckel said.
“The pain was quite intense though and she looked down to see a brown-coloued snake disappearing under a trailer.”
Eastern brown snakes, which are Australian natives, are extremely venomous with a potentially fatal bite.
The woman rang Mr Huckel, who told her to sit and wrap something around her foot while he rang triple-0.

Two ambulance crews attended the scene and wrapped the woman’s leg up to her thigh before taking her to hospital.
“She is fine and luckily received what the paramedics called a dry bite, meaning no poison was injected, but still had to stay in hospital until the next day under observation,” Mr Huckel said.
“We would like to thank very much the staff from triple-0 who took my initial call and the paramedics and ambulance staff from Sutherland Hospital who attended.
“Their professional approach and pleasant, calming manner is to be admired and greatly appreciated.”
Snakes have been out in Sydney’s southern suburbs in full force as the weather warms up.
Bundeena firefighters extracted four diamond pythons from a Bundeena roof cavity last week, while a Heathcote resident reported seeing a death adder in her driveway days earlier.
