The queue for a heavily-inundated drive-through testing clinic is now half a kilometre long with residents on high alert after a confirmed Victorian COVID-19 case attended a number of local venues.

A horrendous queue for a Sydney COVID-19 testing clinic is now half a kilometre long, causing traffic chaos in one Sydney suburb on high alert for new cases of coronavirus.

By midday on Tuesday, the queue for Sutherland’s COVID-19 drive-through clinic in a council carpark on Belmont St snaked back 500m along Flora St all the way to Sutherland Entertainment Centre, after a confirmed Victorian COVID-19 case attended two local venues.

Caringbah and Kurnell residents in particular were warned to be on high alert for respiratory symptoms and fevers after the Victorian case had lunch at Cook @ Kurnell and dinner at Highfield in Caringbah on July 5.

“While investigations are underway, NSW Health urges anyone who attended these venues at these times must watch for respiratory symptoms or fever, and if they occur, isolate and get tested for COVID-19 right away,” the department said in a statement.

“It’s essential that we all take the risk of transmission very seriously and take steps to protect ourselves and loved ones.”

A spokeswoman for South East Sydney Local Health District acknowledged the Sutherland

COVID-19 Drive-Through Testing Centre had experienced a high demand today on Tuesday.

“We are asking people to be patient as wait times may be longer than usual given the high demand, the need to manage the testing process for children as well as the challenging weather conditions,” the spokeswoman said.

“NSW Health has requested anyone who is unwell or has flu like symptoms to be tested – there are a range of different options to access COVID-19 testing, via a GP as well as COVID-19 clinics in the area.”

Residents have been advised to stay home until they can get tested and cleared if they experience even mild symptoms, a cold or cough.

“Keep your distance from others at all times even if you are well,” NSW Health stated.

“If you have been in Victoria, don’t mix with other people until two weeks has passed.”

Traffic is now heavily congested on Belmont St between the Princes Hwy and Flora St as cars attempt to bypass the waiting queue.

The South East Sydney Local Health District has been contacted for updated advice about Sutherland Shire residents who are seeking COVID-19 testing in the area.
