Rockdale teen charged after Arncliffe robbery and assault

A teenager who allegedly violently assaulted a man and tried to steal his bank card then tried to eat a bag of ice when he was arrested by police.

A teenager allegedly tried to eat a bag of ice police seized after they arrested him in connection with an alleged robbery that left a man severely injured at a home in Sydney’s south.

At 12.30am on Sunday police allege the 18-year-old Rockdale man robbed a 56-year-old man of his bank card and violently assaulted him at a unit on the Princes Hwy in Arncliffe.

The older man was left with lacerations to his head and face, multiple rib fractures, a possible lung puncture, scratches, bleeding, bruising to his head and a bite to his right shoulder.

Police were unable to stop the younger man at the scene and chased him to a rail corridor before he was arrested hours later at his home on Villiers St, where a search allegedly uncovered 2.11g of methamphetamine in his pocket.

As officers weighed the drug at Kogarah police station the teenager allegedly grabbed the drug and tried to eat it before officers forced him to spit it out.

He was placed in a cell where he continued to behave in an aggressive manner until the Public Order and Riot Squad arrived to take him to St George Hospital for observation and treatment for drug ingestion.

The man has since been charged with aggravated robbery with wounding, wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, choking, running on a rail corridor, resisting police, prohibited drug possession and self-administering a prohibited drug.

He was refused bail and will face Sutherland Local Court on September 23.
