Rhiannon Stephenson, 20, spent a night in custody on March 5 after she was arrested at her Oatley home and charged with smashing her then-boyfriend’s phone so hard it was bent out of shape.
She pleaded guilty to one count of destroying or damaging property on Tuesday and will either be sentenced or dealt with under the Mental Health Act at Sutherland Local Court on May 13.
Police facts state Stephenson had been in an “intimate relationship” with her 27-year-old boyfriend for four months when the argument occurred.
“At 12.30pm the accused and the victim entered into an argument over relationship issues surrounding the accused seeing other men behind the victim’s back,” the facts stated.
“The victim formed the opinion after going through the accused’s phone and finding messages from unknown men.”
The argument escalated after Stephenson stormed out of the room and went through her boyfriend’s phone.
“(She) found messages alluding to the victim seeing other women behind her back,” the facts stated.
“The argument escalated and the accused took the victim’s iPhone 6 and rammed it into the edge of the doorframe leading from the hallway into the lounge room.”
The phone was “rendered unusable” after the screen shattered and the phone was bent out of shape.
Police conducted a notebook interview at Stephenson’s home in which she admitted smashing the phone.
“The screen was completely broken and the phone was bent,” Stephenson told police.
Stephenson will also be dealt with on other previous criminal matters on May 13.
Police facts indicate Stephenson is unemployed and her parents pay her weekly rent.
