Work is continuing on a St George Catholic school’s $22.5 million expansion, which will include a new junior campus and a nod to the development site’s history.

Penshurst Marist College is building a new junior campus for Year 7 and 8 students on the former South Hurstville Bowling Club site on Greenacre Rd.

The existing buildings have been demolished, except for the heritage-listed former clubhouse, which will be retained and adapted as an administration building for the school.

Up to 380 coeducational students and 28 full-time staff members will be accommodated at the new campus, which will include 25 classrooms, a multipurpose hall, multipurpose courts and recreation areas, and off-street parking.

On Monday Georges River Council approved minor changes to existing plans, which include a slight relocation of a multipurpose sports field and new signage for the South Hurstville Bowling Club building.

Some windows in the heritage building will also need to be replaced as the original timber cannot be restored.

In May the school said the administration block’s roof had been installed.

“All buildings have made good progress in the months of April and May,” the school wrote on their website.
