CHINESE FOOD FESTIVAL

The third Chinese Food Festival in Hurstville will take place until August 10.

The NSW Southern Region Chinese Business Association hosts the event for participating restaurants, supported by Georges River Council.

Mayor Kevin Greene said the festival would offer the community a chance to enjoy diverse Asian cuisine at more than 30 restaurants.

“It’s great news for foodies,” Mr Greene said.

“The festival is being widely promoted throughout Sydney and it is anticipated it will bring many visitors to our culinary city to enjoy the vibrant local Asian food that is on offer.”

A special Food Passport has been created for the event which allows festival-goers to collect stamps that provide incentives and could win them fantastic prizes.

Residents can pick up Food Passports at Westfield Hurstville near Animalia on Level 1, at Hurstville Central near the train concourse and food court, and at Paramount Hurstville at 8 Woniora Rd.

A new all-inclusive adventure playground has come to Allawah with diverse activities for children of all ages and abilities.

Meade Park officially opened on July 9 following a $600,000 investment from Georges River Council.

Mayor Kevin Green said sensory-focused play zones allowed for social play, while Kogarah Bay ward councillor Nick Katris – who initiated the project – said he was pleased to see it finalised.

“The Meade Park adventure playground provides the local community with a much needed first-class asset which caters for a range of both passive and active recreational pursuits,” Cr Katris said.

“The council went out to the community to find out what sort of inclusions they wanted to see at the new playground, and the final design was based on this consultation, to ensure their needs were met.”

The park also includes shade structures, accessible picnic shelters and barbecue facilities.
