A man allegedly spat at police in Sydney’s south after veering his vehicle onto the wrong side of the road and smashing into another car in front of officers.

Police were attending a separate incident along Rocky Point Rd at Kogarah on Saturday when they allegedly saw the male driver driving towards a police officer after the crash.

The man allegedly spat at officers and refused a roadside breath test or breath analysis before a vehicle search uncovered an extendible baton.

The driver was granted bail at Parramatta Bail Court and will face Sutherland Local Court on Thursday on charges of refusing a breath test, refusing a breath analysis, leaving the scene of a crash, failing to keep left, possessing a prohibited weapon, assaulting police and malicious damage.

In a separate incident an Elderslie woman, 22, allegedly drove her Kia Rio over a concrete island near Anzac Ave in Engadine just after 2am on February 17 as police watched on.

Police allege they saw the woman stop shortly after the crash and subjected her to a roadside breath test, which returned a positive result.

The subsequent breath analysis returned an alleged high range reading of 0.151 and her P-plate licence was suspended on the spot.

She will face Sutherland Local Court charged with high range drink driving on March 14.

NSW Police’s Operation Drink Drive ran from Friday until Sunday.

Traffic and Highway Patrol Command’s Assistant Commissioner Michael Corboy said these operations showed most people understood the dangers of drinking and driving.

“The ongoing challenge for all of us, is getting through to the stubborn minority who believe that nothing can or will happen to them if they take control of a vehicle while drunk,” Asst Commissioner Corboy said.

“They have little regard for their own safety and even less for the wellbeing of the community and my officers.”
