A young man accused of assaulting several police officers after an afternoon jetski ride allegedly turned violent has been charged with an “unprovoked, extremely violent attack” on an “innocent member of the community”.

Mouman Baradaaji, 20, has been on remand since November 5 after he and his friend Mohammad Bazzi allegedly slapped a man at Lugarno Marina following an afternoon on their jetskis before assaulting the arresting officers and spitting in their faces.

While he was in custody Baradaaji was subsequently charged with reckless assault causing grievous bodily harm after he allegedly savagely beat a man at a Wilberforce service station with a group of assailants in a separate incident last September.

Baradaaji was refused bail.

Magistrate Peter Bugden refused Baradaaji’s application for bail at Sutherland Local Court ahead of his Supreme Court bail application in relation to the alleged Lugarno assault.

“(The facts allege) this is an assault in a closed garage by a group of thugs,” Mr Bugden told the court.

“Police facts set out that he was the principal offender in the assault.”

Baradaaji’s solicitor requested bail conditions akin to house arrest as he prepares to defend charges from the alleged Wilberforce assault, in addition to four counts of assaulting police, resisting an officer, resisting arrest, assault, affray and intimidation after the Lugarno incident.

The court heard Baradaaji suffers epilepsy after a schoolyard bashing in 2011 and had a fit in prison when he was unable to access his medication.

The Revesby man also suffers ongoing health issues after a 2018 attack in which he was stabbed.

Baradaaji was refused bail to return to Sutherland Local Court on February 11.

Baradaaji’s co-accused Mohammad Bazzi, 20, has also been charged after an alleged altercation at Lugarno Marina.
Baradaaji’s co-accused Mohammad Bazzi, 20, has also been charged after an alleged altercation at Lugarno Marina.

“Both matters reveal a significant level of violence,” Mr Bugden told the court.

“This is not a trial court but on these facts, if he is convicted, he faces many years in jail - these are offences that indicate he is a threat to society.”

Baradaaji’s co-accused Bazzi has been on strict conditional bail since the alleged incident at Lugarno Marina last November.

Bazzi had his bail varied to eliminate his nightly curfew last month so he can go to the gym.
