A massive shark has been spotted enjoying sunshine, clear skies and a spot of social distancing in waters near homes south of Sydney.
Video on social media shows the enormous shark swimming in the Port Hacking River in Gymea Bay, near the Gymea Bay netted swimming baths earlier on Wednesday.
Residents had reported unconfirmed sightings of a shark in the same area weeks earlier in March.
Yes, we know, it’s a river, that’s where sharks live, shock horror, but have you literally seen the size of it?
We won’t be swimming in there any time soon.
(But who would? Everyone knows about Gymea Baths’ water quality tests. More of a concern for your health than a run-in with an NRL player in the Northies men’s room. We’re just kidding. Sort of. Well...)
Today’s NSW Environment BeachWatch report said the likelihood of pollution at Gymea Baths was low.
However, Sydney Water had advised of a sewage overflow affecting the baths on March 3, though more recent testing indicated there was no longer any ill effect on the water quality.
One commenter on social media worried about the shark copping a fine for breaching coronavirus public health orders.
“I hope he is an essential worker … NSW Police will take any advantage to raise revenue,” the man commented.
