The brains behind an infamous Facebook community for Australian plumbers has shown he has more than a few tricks up his sleeve after salsa-ing to second place in a plumbers’ talent competition.

Yarrawarrah resident and The Plumbers’ Crack Group founder Glenn Murray, 55, took out second place in Rheem’s 2019 Aussie Plumbers’ Hidden Talents showcase with his spectacular salsa skills.

Mr Murray heard about the competition on the radio as he drove to work before he decided to “grab a partner and go for it, freestyle” at his weekly salsa lesson.

“I couldn’t believe it, there were so many talented applicants — to come second was a proud moment,” Mr Murray said.

“Like The Plumbers’ Crack, Rheem’s Aussie Plumbers’ Hidden Talent is a great initiative to bring the plumbing community in Australia together for a laugh and to celebrate what makes us unique.”

Mr Murray, who is married with two children, has commercial construction plumbing for almost 40 years, has danced salsa for 10 years and is also in a ukulele club.”

“Work gets in the way of my social life,” Mr Murray quipped.

“I’ll sleep when I’m dead!”

Mr Murray’s original intention for his Facebook group was only to stay in touch with colleagues and friends he had made on the job.

The group now has almost 60,000 members.

“Show us your fishing pics, your party pics, always love the dodgy plumbing pics,” the group’s description states.

“Won’t tolerate any extreme slandering, bullying, racism and general carrying on like you’re the God of Plumbing because none of us dickheads know everything!”

Rheem Australia’s marketing general manager Collignon said APHT was an initiative that celebrated plumbers who do not always have an office environment where connections are forged, and hobbies and hidden talents are known and celebrated.

“We understand that there’s more than meets the eye with many plumbers out there and wanted to give those in the industry a chance to showcase their unique talents,” Mr Collignon said.
