Hafiez Ayad: Cronulla dad pleads guilty to dealing cocaine

A young father was working as a dial-a-dealer, pushing cocaine in Sydney’s south only weeks before the birth of his firstborn child. His partner has denied any involvement after the pair was arrested when she was heavily pregnant.

A young dad was driving around dealing cocaine hidden in an empty Red Bull can only weeks before his partner gave birth to their first child together.

Hafiez Ayad and his partner Tehlea Jane McAlister, both 25, were charged with prohibited drug supply when police pulled their car over in Cronulla on November 30 last year.

Police found cocaine inside an empty can of Red Bull in the car’s console along with $2970 cash and four mobile phones.

McAlister was heavily pregnant at the time and gave birth only weeks after the proud parents were charged.

The new mum has pleaded not guilty to all charges and will next face Sutherland Local Court on March 12.

On Thursday at the same court Ayad’s Legal Aid solicitor entered pleas of guilty to indictable prohibited drug supply, small prohibited drug supply and dealing with the proceeds of crime.

A second charge of indictable prohibited drug supply was withdrawn.

His matter will return to court on March 26 ahead of a disputed facts hearing in which Ayad will challenge some aspects of his charges.

“The drugs are conceded but it’s the weights (in dispute),” his solicitor told the deputy registrar.

“Ayad has a criminal history of traffic offences and taking a conveyance without the consent of the owner,” police bail documents stated.

“There is a good chance of a custodial sentence being handed down (to Ayad).”

The court heard McAlister does not have a criminal history.

The couple, who reside in Kensington, are prevented from travelling to the Sutherland Shire except for court dates, or to any international points of departure as part of their bail conditions.
