Bradd Ring faces court on stolen goods charges

The man who generously offered up $1 million cash to bail out a man charged with former bikie boss Mick Hawi’s murder has appeared before court on stolen goods charges.

A man who attempted to bail out an accused murderer for $1 million was on a community corrections order for property offences that does not expire until June 2020 when he nominated himself as an acceptable person to provide security.

Bail documents reveal Bradd Ring, 46, was sentenced to a community corrections order from June 11 this year until June 11 next year after he was convicted of two property offence charges.

Three subsequent charges of possessing stolen goods came to light days after Ring offered the court $1 million cash security for Jamal Eljaidi’s release from prison as Eljaidi was charged with driving the getaway car when notorious bikie boss Mick Hawi was murdered in Rockdale last year.

Police allege Ring had two stolen motorbikes and a stolen petrol-powered moped when he was apprehended by police in Ramsgate on August 12.

Ring spent one night in custody at Sutherland Local Court before he was granted bail, despite police concerns about his previous offending.

“In the last 12 to 14 months the accused has been charged and convicted for several property-related offences,” police bail documents state.

“The accused’s recent criminal convictions are all property-related offences except for one traffic-related offence.”

However, despite the order made in June and the more recent charges in August, Ring was still permitted to provide the security for Eljaidi at the Supreme Court on October 1.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions is now seeking to have Eljaidi’s bail revoked in light of the charges against Ring.

“In relation to Jamal Eljaidi’s bail application, the matters raised were not disclosed to the court at the time,” a Supreme Court spokeswoman said yesterday.

“Nor were any objections raised by the Crown.”

Ring has now engaged a solicitor to deal with the stolen goods charges and he will return to the same court to reply to the brief on November 5.

Police bail documents also state there is a strong case against Ring and further charges are likely to be laid.

The former smash repairs boss and martial arts enthusiast has also since been charged with using an unregistered and uninsured motor vehicle, having custody of a knife in a public place, prohibited drug possession, prohibited weapon possession, using a heavy vehicle which contravenes standards and driving a vehicle with an unsecured load after a separate incident on October 5.

Police allege the Kogarah man was driving a white Hino truck with no registration plates, insurance, registration or a C class licence on Plimsoll St in Belmore.

A subsequent search allegedly uncovered a knife, an expandable baton and 3.8g of the drug ice.

Ring remains before Burwood Local Court on those charges.
