A drunk driver who blew more than six times the legal limit has admitted he crashed a three-tonne dump truck brimming with asbestos into several parked cars and up the gutter on a main road in Sydney’s south.

Ashley Boen Collins, 59, has pleaded guilty to high range drink driving, negligent driving and seven counts of failing to give his details following the appalling smash in Cronulla on December 29 last year.

Police were told Collins smashed a tipper truck full of asbestos into seven cars on Croydon St, Elouera Rd and Hume Rd before he hit a fence on Hume Rd and finally came to a stop on the Kingsway, leaving asbestos on the road in his wake.

When police arrived at the scene Collins returned a breath analysis reading of 0.308 – more than six times the limit.

On Thursday at Sutherland Local Court Collins’ solicitor indicated the Cronulla man was not in attendance as he had checked into a rehabilitation facility.

However, Collins will plead not guilty to one additional charge of dangerous driving.

The matter will return to court next month.
