A man charged with crashing a three-tonne dump truck full of asbestos into several parked cars while he was allegedly more than six times the blood alcohol limit has not faced court in person because he is in rehab, according to his lawyer.

Ashley Boen Collins, 59, was charged with high-range drink driving, dangerous driving and negligent driving after he allegedly ploughed through several parked cars on the Kingsway in Cronulla at 6.50pm on December 29 last year.

When police arrived at the scene Collins allegedly returned a breath analysis reading of 0.308 – more than six times the legal blood alcohol limit.

He has since been slapped with seven additional charges of failing to give particulars after a crash as police allege he hit and damaged seven cars on Croydon St, Elouera Rd and Hume Rd before he struck a fence on Hume Rd and came to a stop on the Kingsway.

Asbestos spilt from the truck after the second series of impacts on the Kingsway.

The Cronulla man was due to appear for the first time at Sutherland Local Court on Thursday but his solicitor Wayne Pasterfield sought an adjournment because his client is currently at a rehabilitation facility interstate.

Collins’ matter will return to court on February 6.
