Just days after a south Sydney rapper walked the red carpet at Australia’s biggest music awards walked through the doors of court over fresh allegations.

Blake James Turnell, known as Chillinit, appeared in Sutherland Local Court on Tuesday where he pleaded guilty to breaching his bail and driving while disqualified.

The court heard the 28-year old man admitted to driving a car about 5pm on November 7.

He also admitted to breaching a condition of his bail after he was required to live at Hurstville but has been living at Peakhurst with his pregnant partner.

In court the residence condition was formally changed to his new address.

Turnell will be sentenced for the driving charge on December 13.

Next week, Turnell is set to defend allegations he resisted or hindered police, gave false or misleading information, used offensive language in a public place, was not wearing a fitted face covering in a retail premises, did not comply with Covid directions, and possessed a prohibited drug.

The incidents allegedly occurred while he was Christmas shopping with his mother at Westfield Hurstville in December 2021.

Police will allege the rapper was approached due to not wearing a mask inside the shopping centre before he allegedly provided a false name and birthdate as a joke and then swore at the officer.

Turnell’s mother, who supported him in court on Tuesday, recorded the allegations.

Turnell was placed on bail conditions for those matters, including abiding by public health orders and was prohibited from taking any illegal drugs.

Turnell pleaded not guilty to the charges and was set to face a hearing at Sutherland Local Court on March 21 when a NSW Police prosecutor laid a new charge before it was relisted to December 9 this year.

Turnell appeared with his partner and mother at the ARIA Music Awards last week, where he was nominated in the best hip hop/rap release category for his third album, Family Ties.

He didn’t come away with the award, losing out to the big winner on the night, Baker Boy.

Chillinit is due to perform in New Zealand before the end of the year and is expected to become a father for the first time in 2023.

He boasts 326,000 Instagram followers and released his debut album, Women Weed and Wordplay, in 2018.
