Appeal for information following assaults in Oatley

Police have released CCTV images and are appealing for public assistance as investigations continue into two assaults in which a handgun and knife were used in one of the attacks - in Sydney’s south in September.

Police say the two incidents - one where a woman ambushed a man - are related with the same offenders involved in both attacks.

During the first incident, a 22-year-old man was driving a black Honda sedan on Mi Mi St at Oatley on September 7 about 10.30pm, when near the intersection of Acacia St, he stopped to speak to a woman who he had contacted through a social media application.

The woman got into the car, while a second woman, who he did not know, remained outside the car.

The man then noticed a man approach the driver’s side door of the vehicle armed with a firearm.

The man demanded he hand over his phone and wallet before he saw another person approach the car with what the victim thought was a handgun, and pointed it at the victim.

The victim started his car and tried to drive away but realised a third male had gotten into the car.

The third male was armed with a knife and struck the victim in the arm.

The victim tried to fight back and crashed his car into another parked car.

The males and females ran away and the victim contacted Triple 0.

Paramedics treated the victim at the scene for lacerations to his arms.

In a second incident, about 9.50pm on September 9, a couple confronted a rider of an unregistered trail bike, who was travelling up and down Mulga St at Oatley.

The bike rider and another unknown male chased after the couple, who attempted to seek refuge inside their house.

When they tried to close the door, the men broke some of the glass inlay and punched the man in the head.

The two men fled.

Paramedics treated a 45-year-old man for swelling and bruising to the forehead and a 43-year-old woman for minor lacerations.

St George detectives established Strike Force Buses to investigate the circumstances of both incidents.
