A father has been refused bail after he allegedly threatened to kill his wife during 22 calls after she did not have time to bring him McDonalds, a court has heard.

Daniel Alexander Sorokin, 40, applied for release in Sutherland Local Court after he was charged with intimidation.

The court heard Sorokin became angry with his wife after he asked her to bring him McDonald’s and she told him she did not have time because she was running errands on November 18.

Sorokin then allegedly made the multiple calls in the next hour from their Kirrawee home.

Police allege two of the phone calls were recorded by Sorokin’s wife where her husband said: “I’m going to kill you”, “I’m going to stab you”, “don’t come back here”, “don’t come near me”, “do you know how much I f---ing hate you” and that he did not care if police were outside, he would still stab her.

“If you want to live, don’t come home tonight, I’m going to stab you so many times you don’t live,” Sorokin allegedly said before he went on to say he hated her “guts” and “I’ll murder you”.

Sorokin also allegedly threatened to hurt the woman’s dogs.

She contacted police who arrived to allegedly find Sorokin in the kitchen holding a butter knife.

After arguing with police he eventually opened the door and was arrested.

In court, police prosecutor Sergeant James Glissan said the intimidation was serious and involved “explicit and direct threats”, adding there was a repetition to his threats, and he had an aggressive attitude and demeanour towards police.

The court heard Sorokin could enter into an outpatient drug and alcohol rehabilitation program at Concord Hospital.

Sorokin’s father, Alex Sorokin, told the court he would supervise his son who could live in his granny flat, and had taken time off work; adding he and his wife still had a close relationship with the alleged victim and spoke to her regularly.

Mr Sorokin told the court he wanted to protect Sorokin’s wife and had seen a deterioration in his son’s mental health over the past six months.

Defence barrister John Korn said Sorokin was suitable to enter into a full time rehabilitation centre.

Mr Korn said his client indicated he was making food at the time police arrived to find him holding the butter knife.

Magistrate Jillian Keily described the calls as “chilling and disturbing”, adding Sorokin had a criminal history of violence and breaches of court orders.

“These are one of the most serious verbal threats that have come before me,” she said.

Ms Keily noted the case against Sorokin appeared strong and if convicted he would likely receive a custodial sentence.

Sorokin was refused bail with the case adjourned to December 13; with a plea yet to be entered.
