Plans have been revealed for two large luxury residential buildings only streets apart in Cronulla.
Sutherland Shire Council received two development applications from town planning service DMPS for 79-81 Gerrale St and 8 Ewos Parade last week.
The Gerrale St plan proposes demolition of the existing three-storey building and construction of a nine-storey residential building comprising 18 units over two levels of basement carparking at a cost of $23m.
A previous development application for the site was refused in 2019 for construction of a nine-storey residential flat building containing 26 units above four levels of basement carparking because of the bulk and scale of the development, design and amenity issues.
Now the amended plans will see the ends of the building be curved and contrast with the rectangular design of the adjourning building.
The building will also have a stepped street setback.
A key element of the proposal is the incorporation of greenery onto the building, which will connect with nearby Munro and Cronulla parks.
Less than a minute drive away, Ewos Investments Pty Ltd has proposed a residential unit building of five storeys made up of 14 two bedroom apartments and two three bedroom units, at a cost of $10m.
The existing building will need to be demolished and there will be 24 carparking spaces located in the basement level.
“Each unit comprises a generous open plan living, dining and kitchen area that opens onto an area of private open space, maximising opportunities for both indoor and outdoor amenity,” the development application said.
“The proposed development includes materials and finishes that are compatible with the coastal environment of Cronulla.”
The facade will have earthy-toned coloured sandstone-like finish, and light-coloured render with timber look window and door frames that is consistent with the beach-like surrounds of the development.
Both sites are located in proximity to the Cronulla town centre, which offers multiple shopping and dining options for residents.
There are also close public transport links available with Cronulla Railway Station nearby as well as bus routes.
