A former hairdresser has narrowly avoided going to jail after she was caught with 20 bags of cocaine by police cracking down on drug supply around south Sydney’s hotels and pubs.

Natasha Hadwan, 22, pleaded guilty to supplying an indictable to commercial quantity of drugs, a small quantity of drug supply and dealing with the proceeds of a crime before she was sentenced in Sutherland Local Court on Tuesday.

Agreed facts tendered to the court said officers patrolled licensed venues for drug supply on February 3 as it is “common practice” for drug dealers to sell their product through messaging apps and then deliver it by car around bars and nightclubs on weekends.

Police observed a man exit the Prince Hotel in Kirrawee about 7pm as he regularly looked at his phone before he walked to a nearby Bunnings car park.

Hadwan, who lives in Greenacre, arrived in her Hyundai i30 at the car park before the man entered the passenger seat, exited moments later and walked back towards the hotel.

Officers stopped him and found four bags of cocaine, which he said he bought from Hadwan in exchange for $1000.

Police approached Hadwan, still in the car park, and saw her putting cash into her handbag.

Officers also saw her looking through a messaging app, commonly used to make drug deals, and she was arrested.

Twenty bags of cocaine were found in her bag, and $1000 cash, with police estimating the drugs were worth $5000.

The court heard Hadwan had been convicted previously for supplying drugs and was sentenced to a jail term to be served in the community.

Defence lawyer Elias Tabchouri said Hadwan had been involved in a motor vehicle crash where she suffered a traumatic brain injury and had a reduction in cognitive features such as memory loss and got migraines.

He said she needed ongoing support with the view to return to employment.

Mr Tabchouri said his client had made significant progress, had good prospects of rehabilitation, and sought treatment for her psychological state following her injury.

He added Hadwan was also attending regular counselling and completing a drug rehabilitation program.

Magistrate Philip Stewart noted the steps Hadwan had taken and her medical needs.

He also took into account her age and that she had the support of her family, with nine relatives in court.

Mr Stewart said there was no alternative except for imprisonment but allowed her to complete her jail sentence in the community through a 14-month intensive correction order, and she was fined $3000.
