A graffiti removalist will be off the road for 12 months after he rode his motorbike more than double the speed limit in the Royal National Park, a court has heard.

Mark Allan Peterson, 43, was sentenced in Sutherland Local Court on Thursday after he pleaded guilty to driving in a dangerous manner and not keeping left of dividing lines.

Agreed facts tendered to court said officers were conducting stationary speed enforcement checks when they detected Peterson riding his motorbike at 141km/h in a 60km/h zone along Lady Wakehurst Dr, Lilyvale on the afternoon of May 6.

Officers saw the Greystanes man move onto the incorrect side of the road, over double unbroken lines, to overtake another motorcycle.

Police pulled him over and when he was told how fast he was travelling, Peterson responded, “you serious? F---. Stupidity I guess” before his licence was suspended and he was given a notice to attend court.

The court heard Peterson had a limited traffic record but had committed six speeding offences.

Peterson’s lawyer Anthony Strik said his client needed a driver’s licence to care for his ill parents and autistic son.

Mr Strik said Peterson worked as a graffiti removal cleaner at schools and in the community and was supported by his wife in court.

Mr Strik said Peterson acknowledged he “brought shame” on his family and had spent more than four months off the road.

Magistrate Imad Abdul-Karim said the offence was serious and acknowledged Peterson had completed the traffic offenders program before he sentenced him to 12-months community correction order where he must be of good behaviour.
