Joshua Morgan charged over cocaine, viagra jelly at The Peakhurst

A young man busted with drugs at a popular Sydney pub for the second time in recent months was also found with another illicitly obtained item a magistrate had never even heard of before.

Australia's cocaine crisis

A young man caught with four bags of cocaine and a tube of viagra jelly after police and a drug dog cornered him in a Sydney pub’s gaming room has been described in court as being “addicted to the marching powder”.

Joshua Morgan, 22, was charged with having unlawfully obtained goods in his custody, prohibited drug possession and prohibited drug supply after a night on the pokies turned unlucky in a novel way.

Police and a drug dog were patrolling The Peakhurst – known best to locals as The Peaky – in Sydney’s south on October 29 when they spotted Morgan in the gaming room.

“The accused saw police and immediately started to walk at speed towards the gaming area entry,” police facts tendered to Sutherland Local Court state.

“The accused ran into other police at another exit to the gaming room where he immediately said ‘I don’t have a mask, I don’t have a mask’.”

But Morgan’s lack of mask was ultimately the least of his worries after he confessed to having three bags of cocaine on him amounting to 3.65g.

“The accused told police two bags were for him and two bags were for another mate,” police facts state.

“Police searched the wallet of the accused where $800 in cash was located.”

Morgan first told police he won the cash on the pokies – before saying instead he was paid in cash.

Police further located a 5g sachet of Kamagra oral jelly, also known as liquid viagra.

“He informed police it was viagra, he bought it online and he planned on using it,” police facts state.

The Gymea Bay man pleaded guilty to all three charges and faced Magistrate Joy Boulos at Sutherland Local Court on December 21.

His solicitor Wayne Pasterfield acknowledged Morgan had narrowly escaped a conviction on a prior drug possession charge in recent months.

“He hasn’t learned his lesson, has he,” Ms Boulos said.

“It’s not that he hasn’t learned his lesson, Your Honour, it’s that he’s addicted to the marching powder,” Mr Pasterfield responded.

The court heard Morgan had since taken responsibility for his drug addiction and Ms Boulos sentenced him to a nine-month community corrections order for the supply, a conviction with no further punishment for the possession and a $100 fine for the viagra jelly.

“Viagra jelly, you learn something new every day,” Ms Boulos said.

“Unless you address these issues you will keep reoffending and you don’t want to end up there – it starts when you’re 21 and it escalates out of control.”
