An apprentice electrician has been granted bail after a terrifying Valentine’s Day incident where he allegedly choked his girlfriend and smashed her belongings before police found a large stash of drugs.

Jacob Rose, 22, appeared in Sutherland Local Court charged with 14 domestic violence, drugs and weapons offences related to allegations at their Kirrawee home on February 14.

The court heard Rose’s girlfriend was attempting to pack her bags to leave to go to her mother’s house after they started fighting.

The argument continued for two hours, and Rose allegedly threw her belongings around the room and damaged her television and plates.

Police further allege Rose’s behaviour escalated when he picked up a knife and threatened to kill himself before shoving his girlfriend into a glass coffee table.

The court heard the girlfriend tried to call Triple 0 to help Rose because she was concerned for his welfare, before he allegedly took her phone, smashed it and threatened to slit her throat.

He also allegedly slammed the woman’s hand in the bedroom door, causing it to bleed and at one point during the confrontation allegedly choked her.

Jacob Rose has been given a hearing date in September to defend serious domestic violence, drugs and weapons charges at Sutherland Local Court.

Police were called and searched the home were they allegedly found a knife and large amount of drugs inside a safe.

It is further alleged that officers found a stash of prescription drugs including oxytocin and codeine, 354 grams of cannabis, 271 grams of cocaine and $26,180 in cash.

In court, police prosecutor Sergeant James Glissan said Rose allegedly made admissions to police following his arrest, particularly regarding smashing his girlfriend’s phone, choking her, and slamming the door on her hand.

“Rose was allegedly in possession of quite frankly a staggering amount of drugs,” he said.

Rose’s defence lawyer Brigitte Simeonides told the court her client would abide by stringent bail conditions to mitigate any risk.

She said Rose wanted to end the relationship and have no contact with his girlfriend, and noted there was a provisional apprehended violence order in place preventing contact between the pair.

Ms Simeonides said Rose had seen a psychiatrist for some time on a weekly basis because he suffered from a “number of mental health diagnoses”, which were not detailed in court and was seeking treatment.

She also said there would likely be an explanation for the money that was seized as well as the alleged drugs, and noted the white powder found was a “gift”.

Ms Simeonides said Rose had taken a break from his apprenticeship but had recently organised to start it again soon, with his employer aware of the charges.

She added that Rose had supportive parents and siblings and could live with his mother.

Magistrate Brett Thomas considered his decision overnight and on Friday granted Rose bail, including conditions that he report to police daily, not enter the Sutherland Shire nor contact his girlfriend in any way.

Pleas of guilty were entered to charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, two counts possess prohibited drug and a damage property.

Ms Simeonides entered not guilty pleas to the charges of possessing prescribed restricted substance, two counts of supplying prohibited drugs, being armed with intent to commit and indictable offence, common assault, damage property, intentionally choking a person, possessing a prohibited weapon, dealing with the property proceeds of a crime and possessing prohibited drug.

A hearing date of September 1 this year was allocated with the case adjourned to March 30.
