A “boujee” hairdresser who was busted dealing cocaine and with thousands in cash, was given a “wake up call” after spending a night in police custody.

Isabella Velentzas, of Rockdale, was represented by high-profile lawyer Ahmed Dib as she appeared at Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday where she pleaded guilty to drug supply and drive while suspended. A charge of dealing with property, proceeds of crime was taken into account during sentencing.

Agreed facts reveal on about 9pm on June 3 the 24-year-old was driving her Hyundai i30 on Davoren Lane, Surry Hills towards a man who police had previously spotted getting money out from a nearby ATM.

The man was seen entering and leaving Velentzas’ car in a matter of seconds before he was stopped and a bag of cocaine, weighing 0.55g was found. He told police it was purchased for $250.

At the same time, police stopped Velentzas on Sophia St where she was arrested and cautioned.

During questioning, she admitted to supplying the bag of cocaine and made further admissions to possessing two further bags, weighing 1.04g, which she handed to police.

Police later seized a total of $3730 from the car with $250 located in her pocket.

When conducting police checks, officers found Velentzas had a suspended provisional licence, however, she said she wasn’t aware.

“[She] stated she had recently paid a fine for speeding,” agreed facts reveal.

Velentzas was then taken to Surry Hills police station.

In addressing the seriousness of his client’s offending, Mr Dib said while it wasn’t at the lowest end, it was “certainly not at the mid-range”.

He accepted drug-related matters were prevalent in court, however, he highlighted how Velentzas spent the night in custody after her arrest.

Mr Dib said it was a “wake up call” and later referenced an apology letter his client wrote to the court where she acknowledged it was a “terrible decision”.

He told the court his client was co-operative with police, made full admissions and was honest about being unaware of her suspended licence.

Mr Dib said Velentzas worked at Hair X studio which was “apparently … quite boujee” and required her licence.

Magistrate Daniel Covington said the drug amounts weren’t “significant”.

However, while there was an “inherent degree of planning” involved, he said it wasn’t significant.

Velentzas was ultimately convicted and sentenced to a 12 month community correction order for drug supply and spared a conviction for driving suspended where she was handed a 12 month conditional release order.
