Christos Karakitsios pleads not guilty to assaulting child

A teenager who allegedly sprayed a child with a high pressure hose as a form of punishment has been charged.

A teenager has fronted court for the first time after he allegedly used a high pressure hose on a child.

Christos Karakitsios, 19, pleaded not guilty to common assault and hindering a police officer in the execution of their duty during a short mention of his matter in Sutherland Local Court on Wednesday.

St George police officers were called to a home on Thursday about 3pm to reports of an incident.

Police allege Karakitsios, who lives in Monterey, had used a high-pressure hose to spray a child as punishment, causing distress.

Police allege officers were denied entry to the property and another man refused to allow them to investigate further.

Officers forced into the location and they saw the child who did not appear to have visible injuries.

Karakitsios was arrested and taken to St George police station where he was charged.

He was also issued with a provisional apprehended violence order and granted conditional bail to appear in court.

On Wednesday, Karakitsios entered pleas of not guilty.

The matter was set for hearing on January 8.
