A builder has been refused bail after police found a video of him allegedly stuffing firearms into a manhole outside his unit.

Amin Fahmy, 28, appeared in Sutherland Local Court on Thursday where he sought release after being charged with firearms offences and contravening an apprehended violence order.

A police statement of facts said officers stopped the Hurstville construction worker on Ormonde Pde in Hurstville on Wednesday morning.

Checks revealed he was a suspended driver and was not allowed to drive due to his bail conditions.

Fahmy was arrested and taken to Kogarah police station where he was charged with breaching his bail.

While in custody, police discovered Fahmy was not allowed to possess any encrypted mobile phone or app, documents said.

Police allege while they were checking his phone he received a message on WhatsApp from a woman named on an AVO, who he is prohibited from contacting, therefore allegedly breached his bail conditions.

Amin Fahmy was denied release when he appeared in Sutherland Local Court charged with firearms offences.

Officers also checked his photo album and saw a video of a man, who they alleged is Fahmy, placing black bags into a manhole in a roof in the common area of a unit complex, documents said.

Officers went to Fahmy’s Hurstville home and searched the manhole outside his unit because it resembled the one depicted in the video.

Officers allegedly found a black bag zipped up with an unloaded modified semi-automatic rifle inside.

Police also allegedly located a Mac 10 submachine gun with a detached silencer along with two loaded magazines and ammunition inside, documents said.

Police also located a second phone with encrypted apps, which further allegedly breached Fahmy’s bail conditions.

The documents said Fahmy was on bail at the time he allegedly committed the offences and regularly provided misleading information about his bail address, claiming he lived at Minto with his family to avoid police.

He refused to do a police interview, rather stating, “all I’m going to say if I interview is they aren’t mine”.

Fahmy was charged with two counts of possessing an unregistered firearm, possessing ammunition without holding a licence and not keeping a firearm safely.

In court, Fahmy represented himself during a bail application but was refused release with Magistrate Phillip Stewart finding the breach of bail had been established.

Fahmy denied the allegations.

The case will return to court on October 27.
