A senior police officer charged with malicious damage has been identified as James Kalantzis in court.
The officer attached to an unnamed specialist command did not appear in Sutherland Local Court when the case was mentioned for the first time.
Kalantzis, 33, has been charged with intentionally or recklessly damaging property on May 28about 1.50pm at Miranda.
Documents tendered to court allege Kalantzis, who lives in Sylvania, intentionally or recklessly damaged the paint work of a man’s Nissan Navara.
Kalantzis, who holds the rank of sergeant, was off-duty at the time.
Following inquiries, Kalantzis was issued a court attendance notice for malicious damage on August 18.
In court on Thursday, the case was briefly mentioned and adjourned for six weeks for representations to be made by Kalantzis’ lawyers to the Department of Public Prosecutions, which has carriage of the case rather than NSW Police.
Kalantzis is not on bail and was not required to attend court.
A police statement at the time of Kalantzis being charged stated his employment status was being reviewed.
The case was adjourned to November 24.
