A woman allegedly involved in a thwarted delivery of a large amount of imported ‘ice’ has indicated she will take her charge to trial.

Alexandra Karanfilovski, 26, has been charged with attempting to possess a commercial quantity of methamphetamine and her case was briefly mentioned in Downing Centre District Court on Friday.

Karanfilovski’s best friend Israh Chahine, who both live in Arncliffe, and two male associates Adam Ayshan and Mohamad Hawchar were all charged with the same offence.

Only last week, Chahine cried and wailed when she was sentenced to two years and 10 months in jail, with a minimum of 16 months, in Downing Centre District Court after she pleaded guilty.

Ayshan and Hawchar were sentenced to four years and 10 months and four years and eight months in jail respectively.

They will be eligible for parole after two years and six months and two years and four months.

During the sentencing of Chahine, the court heard Australian Border Force officials examined a consignment containing 12 ration packets, totalling 4.2kg of meth, that was sent from the US and addressed to Chahine on May 5, 2020.

The drugs were replaced with an inert substance and were allegedly delivered to Karanfilovski’s home.

The court heard Chahine and Karanfilovski allegedly spoke about “foundation,” which was the codename they allegedly used to discuss the drugs, before Chahine went to pick up the package and deliver it to Ayshan.

On Friday the court heard the case would proceed to trial after the Crown and defence lawyer Ahmed Dib could not resolve the matter through negotiations.

Judge Hunt listed the next court date on November 30 where a trial date would likely be confirmed.
